Town of Strathmore

Stathmore is a rural Alberta town located approximately 40 kilometres east of Calgary on the TransCanada Highway (Highway 1).  It has a population of approximately 11,000 people many of which commute to work in Calgary.  Dating back to 1883 Strathmore is one of the oldest towns in the area.

Strathmore has several schools catering from kindergarten to grade 12.  There are both public and catholic schools as well as a small selection of alternative schools.  With several lakes, a golf course, rodeo grounds, a swimming pool, several churches, and various parks and green spaces their is plenty for people to do in the town.  The town centre is just to the north of the TransCanada Highway and there is a small industrial area just to the south.

Strathmore was built at the turn of the century as a result of Canadian Pacific Railway expanding across the prairies.  Today, although the rail line has been removed, Strathmore still has a thriving business catering to the traveler as many businesses are set up bordering the TransCanada Highway.

Being located on a major highway, Strathmore offers relatively easy access into Calgary for work and leisure while still giving a small town rural feel to life and more affordable housing compared to some of the other towns closer to Calgary.
