Rocky View Municipality

The Rocky View municipality is a large rural area covering almost 1 million acres which surrounds the city of Calgary to the North, East and West.  With a population of close to 35,000 people that represents approximately one person for every three acres of land.  The Rocky View municipality is made up of large rural areas and several small towns ranging from Irricana and Beiseker in the NE, Crossfield in the North, Bottrel in the NW, Dalmead and Langdon in the SE and Bragg Creek and Redwood Meadows in the SW.  Whether it's the open prairies to the North and East of Calgary or the foothills of the Rockies to the West the municipality of Rocky View offers a variety of rural life.

Other than the towns most of the housing is on parcels of land, referred to as acreages.  In many cases the acreage is remote from other properties and due to its location is likely to have its own well for water supply and septic tank for sewage disposal.  Living on an acreage is very much a lifestyle choice as it is a very different way of life compared to living in the cities and towns.

Some acreages that are close to Calgary are very expensive as they tend to combine the benefits of the  lifestyle of living in the country with the convenience of work and leisure of the city.  Conversely, in general, the more remote the property the more affordable it becomes.
