Crossfield is a small rural Alberta town situated about 50 kilometres north of Calgary just off the QEII (Queen Elizabeth II Highway - Highway 2) with a population of approximately 2,600 people. Established as a village in 1907 Crossfield celebrated its centennial in 2007.
Approximately one third of the population work in Crossfield itself, one third work in Calgary and the other third either work from home, rural or other urban centres. The main industries in Crossfield and the surrounding area are agriculture, agricultural services and natural gas processing.
Within Crossfield is an elementary school (kindergarten to grade 5) and a combined middle/high school (grades 6 to 12). There is also a community centre, various senior complexes, churches, a library, as well as various businesses and an industrial complex allowing a variety of employment for people living in the town. There are lots of facilities available for both young and old including a curling rink, indoor and outdoor ice rinks, golf course, baseball diamonds, soccer fields, rodeo grounds, skate board park as well as several parks/green spaces and ponds.
Being a small town there is a great spirit of community and a slower pace to life. For those that like fresh produce (instead of supermarket pre-packaged goods) there is a weekly farmers market that is held between May and September.
There are several newer sub-divisions within Crossfield offering excellent value for money compared to Calgary and some of the other larger towns. The newer sub-divisions include Sunset Ridge, Westgate Estates and Harrison Estates. Approximately 75% of housing in the town is single family detached homes.
